800 pound generator stolen from Broad Ripple business

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –  A business owner is asking for your help to find who stole his generator, and the crime was caught on camera.

It happened Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

An empty spot is all that remains behind the building where Kenneth Blansette operates LifeGrid Internet in Broad Ripple.

Blansette said his 800-pound generator was stolen by a man driving a pickup truck with a trailer attached.

“It looked like a professional, there’s no way that this could’ve been not a professional. As fast as it was, it almost looked like a magician doing a disappearing act,” said Blansette. “They cut it from the gas line, the cut it from the electrical. They cut the chains that it was locked down with and threw it on the back of a truck and took off with it.”

He was able to do it in three minutes and 21 seconds. Blansette says the generator cost $5,000.

This isn’t the first daylight crime Broad Ripple has had recently.

On Friday, IMPD said two cars were broken into while parked near the Monon Trail at 75th street. Earlier this month multiple smash and grabs were reported outside restaurants in the area during lunch hour.

And there’s also been numerous reports of robberies on and near the Monon Trail during all times of day.

People said they’re taking precautions

“I just try to keep my music down in my earbuds so I can be aware and look around and just watch out for people but I feel that it’s generally pretty safe especially during the day when it’s light,” said Caroline Mosey, while walking the Monon.

But for Blansette, he just hopes someone will help.

“We want to get the video footage out there in hopes that somebody might recognize this guy or his truck and report it,” he said.

If you know anything you’re asked to contact Crime Stoppers. Their number is 262-TIPS.

Blansette also says he’s working with the building management to get more cameras on the building.
