Anything on Wheels Car Show at the Indiana War Memorial

What a beauty! Today on Indy Style, we learn more about a car show coming to the Indiana War Memorial. Here are a few details:

National Guard Association of Indiana (NGAI) Quick Facts

NGAI is a non for profit 501(c)(19) organization over 10,000 members strong. Our mission:

• Advocacy: Promote legislative actions to benefit members of NGAI and the Indiana National Guard at the state and national levels.

• Partnership: Establish and maintain relations with our national affiliates; NGAUS (officer), EANGUS (enlisted). EANGUS 2015 Conference will be hosted in Indianapolis.

• Promotion: Work with our Industry Partners for improved equipment, training and operational capabilities of the Indiana National Guard.

• Education: Educational grants for members and dependents enrolled in higher learning, $31,000 in last 3 years.

• Professional Development/Fellowship: Sponsor soldiers and airman to attend state and national training opportunities supplementing NGB authorized professional development opportunities.

• Service: Administrator of the State Sponsored Life Insurance Benefit.

Although incorporated in 1963, our history precedes WWII with recorded dates back as early as 1932 as an officers only association. On incorporation, we evolved to 1 of only 14 unique combined associations; officer and enlisted. Board is combined as well. Many Board Presidents have risen to GO with several being TAG.

We work closely with our national affiliates NGAUS and EANGUS in Washington, DC along with industry partners on legislative issues in support of improved equipment, manning, training, operations and personnel benefits.

Significant legislation passed in 2016 Indiana General Assembly was HB 1313 authored by Rep Peggy Mayfield, for recognition of Hoosier Veteran in Indiana code. Many of our Indiana National Guardsmen as well as Reservists served honorably for many years, but they are not recognized as veterans and receive no VA benefits. Those same individuals will now be recognized as Hoosier Veterans in Indiana and qualify for any state defined benefits for veterans. A perfect example is MG (Ret) R. Martin Umbarger who served his country and state faithfully for 46 years, his last 12 as The Adjutant General. By Indiana code, he was not qualified to work at the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs because he is not a veteran. That issue is now resolved as Indiana Code will now recognizes our Hoosier Veterans beginning 1 July 2016. Governor Mike Pence recently signed a Proclamation declaring the week of 1 July -8 July 2016 as Hoosier Veteran week.

National Guard Association of Indiana Foundation (NGAIF)
