Boudia, Cook take lead positon at US Olympic diving trials

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Divers David Boudia and Kassidy Cook moved closer to achieving their summer goals by grabbing the lead in Tuesday’s events at the U.S. Olympic trials.

Boudia is trying to become the fourth American man to win consecutive Olympic gold medals in 10-meter. He outdueled synchro partner Steele Johnson in a fierce semifinal battle, finishing with 1,007.25 points. Johnson is second at 961.8. But Johnson had two perfect scores and Boudia had one. David Dinsmore is third at 953.9.

Cook missed the 2012 American team by 0.42 points but will be the final contestant in Sunday’s 3-meter finals after scoring 660.85. Abby Johnston, the synchro 3-meter silver medalist in 2012, is second at 626.55. Laura Ryan is third at 611.6.

The top two finishers in each event qualify for the Olympic team.
