Dozens of cats removed from house ‘5 inches deep in feces’

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Virginia man is facing numerous charges after several dozen cats were reportedly removed from a home on Richneck Road in Newport News in April.

Raymond Veditz is due in court on July 27 for a long list of charges, including unlawful care of feral cats and illegal use of land.

Court records show that an Animal Control officer served a warrant on April 4 at the home after receiving a report of cats living in unsanitary conditions.

The officer reportedly removed 47 cats from the house, six of which were dead on arrival. The house was “5 inches deep in feces throughout,” the officer’s report shows.

There was reportedly a large number of cats still in the house after the officer completed the search, and two more dead cats that were “squished into the floor” and could not be removed.
