Homeowner shoots former NFL player during attempted burglary

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A homeowner shot a former NFL player  Wednesday as he tried breaking into a Portland, Oregon, home, deputies said.

Portland police and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and were approached by the 78-year-old homeowner who reportedly told them he shot an attempted burglary suspect.

The man reportedly discharged his weapon from inside the home. The suspect, 33-year-old Stanley Wilson II, was found naked in a spa with a gunshot wound to the abdomen when paramedics arrived, deputies said.

Wilson was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2005 as a cornerback out of Stanford.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. On Thursday morning officials charged him with two counts of attempted burglary and two counts of trespassing.

The homeowner is reportedly cooperating with investigators.
