Rep. Carson says Democratic sit-in was successful

WASHINGTON (WISH) — Rep. André Carson was an active participant in the Democratic sit-in in Congress.

The Congressman from Indianapolis has been sharing his experience on social media.

He issued a statement that says, in part, “Mass shootings have become unacceptably commonplace in our country… It is clearer than ever that we have a searing responsibility to do more to keep guns out of the wrong hands.”

Late Thursday afternoon we connected with the Congressman by FaceTime and he said the demonstration was a success.

“We opened up a broader conversation on social media and certainly with traditional media outlets,” he said, “and people are still talking about it and the facts are clear, especially with the horrific incidents that happened in Orlando and other places, our gun laws are partly complicit for many of these shootings.”

Carson didn’t get up to speak during the sit-in. He said he feels like he has spoken up enough on gun control issues and wanted to give some of his colleagues an opportunity to do so.
