Suspect arrested in Vigo Co. homicide charged with murder

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – The suspect who was arrested last week in connection to the homicide investigation in northern Vigo County has been formally charged with murder.

Mason Crockett, 23, was arrested on June 17 after the body of his brother, Zachery Crockett, was found at 5350 Estate Road Lot 36

Autopsy results showed Zachery Crockett died from a stab wound to the chest. According to court documents, deputies received a call from Elizabeth Smith. She told deputies she had received a call from her other son, Mason, around 2:30 a.m. on Friday. In that call, Mason reportedly said he got into a fight with his brother Zachery. Mason told his mother he had stabbed Zachery with his pocket-knife “until the knife would not go in any further.”

He stated that he stabled him while they were fighting between the trailers. Mason also said Zachery fell to the ground before he left.

Officials believe a love triangle involving the two brothers could be at the center of this murder investigation.

In court on Thursday morning, Mason was formally charged with murder and has plead not guilty. His trial has been set for Nov. 15.
