Cold case robbery investigation leads to arrest

FULTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A cold case robbery investigation lead to the arrest of William Stinemetz, 52 of Palm City, Florida.

Indiana State Police arrested Stinemetz Wednesday evening in connection to a robbery that happened on December 18, 1997.

Police said in 1997 they were sent to an active hold up alarm at the First Farmers Bank and Trust located on 101 Main Street in Amboy, Indiana. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect had already left the bank.

An initial investigation showed a white male approximately 5’9″ tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with brown hair walked into the bank and indicated he had a gun. A bank teller said the suspect demanded money and then was given an undisclosed amount of money. The man then left the bank and reportedly ran to a vehicle.

Police said the suspect was last seen wearing gold tinted glasses, a blue bib snow suit, and a brown sock cap.

Evidence which had been collected during the initial phase of the investigation was submitted to an Indiana State Police laboratory for DNA analysis. The results matched Stinemetz.

Stinemetz is at the Fulton County Jail and faces criminal charges.
