Indiana gets over $600,000 in federal housing grants

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The federal government is awarding Indiana over $600,000 to help pay for public housing projects across the state.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the new funding this week.

Most of the money will go to public housing agencies in Evansville and Elkhart. Each will get $250,000 to make repairs and improvements to existing public housing units.

Another $126,000 will go to groups in Marion, Muncie, Bloomington, Evansville and Mitchell. That money will be used to pay for housing counseling. The service can help those who are struggling with home payments. It can also be used to pay for temporary housing for the homeless.
