Indy mom survives violent home invasion

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Sheila Springfield sat in her living room with two knots on her forehead. This comes after a violent attack inside her home Sunday night in the 3300 block of Kenwood Avenue.

The case unfolded as Springfield and her family were inside their home watching the BET Awards. When suddenly someone started knocking on the door, without hesitation Springfield answered it, and that is when the trouble started.

Two unknown men without masks forced their way inside the home. One had a gun and he pushed Springfield down to the ground and demanded cash, while the other suspect stood watch over Springfield’s children.

“I pulled the door open, a gun was in my head and in my face,” said Springfield.

While the 54-year-old woman was on the ground, the gunman struck her in the head with the butt of the gun, as blood streamed down her face.

Springfield handed over $200 in cash in the process. The men took the money and left.

“I just thanked God. I really thank God that they didn’t do anything wrong to anyone else,” said Springfield.

During the attack, Springfield told 24-Hour News 8 that she could look in the gunman’s eyes and see that he was under some type of influence.

“I want them to be caught and punished for this crime they committed,” said Springfield.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department only has a vague description of the suspects. Anyone with information in this case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
