Watch: Jay Leno uninjured when car overturns during stunt

IRWINDALE, CA (WCMH) – Jay Leno got a little more than he bargained for when he went for a ride on two wheels for a recent episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.

Leno went for a ride in a 2,500 horsepower Plymouth Barracuda known as ‘Hemi Under Glass’ with driver Bob Riggle at the Irwindale Raceway in California. The car is modified so that the large engine sits where the back seat would normally be, allowing the car to perform wheel stands.

After a successful wheel stand, Riggle seemed to have trouble stopping. The car then overturns as the cameras continue to roll, both inside and outside the car.

Neither Leno nor Riggle were injured in the crash. The car, on the other hand, may need a little bit of work before it goes back on the track.

Bob Riggle was the original driver of ‘Hemi Under Glass’ when it made its debut in 1967. The car driven during the stunt with Jay Leno was a replica of one of the early cars originally driven by Riggle.

The original ‘Hemi Under Glass’ recently sold at auction for $300,000.
