Suspect hits 4 parked cars, shoots Fort Wayne man

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police are looking for the person who crashed into four parked cars on Smith Street and then shot a man who tried to keep him from running away.

Police were called to 4033 Smith Street near Baxter Street shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Investigators said the driver of a car turned onto Smith Street and side-swiped three cars and a box truck. He attempted to leave the area but someone tried to prevent him from leaving before police arrived.

Police said the driver of the car then shot a man in the leg before running from the area.

The victim was taken to a hospital in good condition, according to FWPD Spokesman Officer Chris Felton.

A K-9 officer tracked several blocks north to Pontiac Street but was unable to locate a suspect.

The vehicle driven by the suspect was taken to be processed for evidence. Felton said no gun was found at the site of the crash and shooting.

Investigators attempted to speak with potential witnesses in an effort to get a suspect description.

The incident is under investigation.
