Mayor Hogsett, TeenWorks partner with more than 350 volunteers

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will join more than 350 volunteers at Indy Urban Acres Farm Thursday afternoon.

The volunteers are with TeenWorks, a six-week summer jobs program for teens that combines paid employment, job readiness courses and civic engagement opportunities.

TeenWorks has partnered with Indy Urban Acres Farm for four years to provide jobs for teens. The organic farm is on the east side of Indianapolis and provides food for local food banks. There are more than 100 teens working at the farm, which is an Indianapolis Parks Foundation project.

TeenWorks partnered with Mayor Hogsett for his Project Indy initiative, a summer jobs program.

“In the summer, if kids got nothing to do, they rarely do nothing,” Mayor Hogsett said. “This keeps them off the streets, it keeps them out of gangs and it gives them meaningful work that puts money in their pocket. And frankly, experience that they would otherwise not get.”
