Teen arrested after high speed chase in stolen car
DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – An intoxicated teen from Fort Wayne was arrested in Delaware County after a high speed chase where he was clocked on Interstate 69 going 108 miles per hour in a stolen vehicle.
According to Indiana State Police, shortly before 3 a.m.. Trooper Brad Tucker clocked Amado Perez, 18, at 108 mph in a Chevrolet Cavalier around the 245 mile marker.
The trooper attempted to stop Perez as he continued south at speeds over 100 mph, refusing to stop. As the car entered Madison County, police said Perez avoided stop sticks deployed around the 234 mile marker. A mile later, the vehicle ran out of gas and suddenly began slowing down.
Police said Perez got out of his car and ran over a hill into briars and an INDOT fence, where he then fell into the brush and was taken into custody.
Perez told police he was on his way to Michigan, even though he was headed south. Investigators later learned he was driving a car that had been reported stolen by his grandmother in Fort Wayne.
Perez was treated at a hospital in Muncie for the minor injuries he received from the briars and running into the fence. Perez was then taken to the Delaware County Jail where he has since been charged with the following:
- Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle, level 6 Felony
- Vehicle Theft, level 6 Felony
- OWI Endangerment, Class “A” Misdemeanor
- Resisting Law Enforcement, fleeing, Class “A” Misdemeanor
In addition he was written a ticket for 108 mph in a 70 mph zone.
