IMS gives Tony Stewart special retirement send off

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) – Drivers will take their first laps on the new dirt track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Tuesday.

It’s part of a special send-off for two-time Crown Royal 400 at the Brickyard winner, Tony Stewart.

Leaders said the newest additional at IMS, a 3/16th mile oval in Turn 3, is a retirement gift for him.

Tuesday’s laps will be an exhibition, but the Speedway has indicated the track could become a permanent fixture and host real races.

Stewart is in town to help promote the upcoming race on July 24, which is his last race at the Speedway.

The events get underway at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
