Indy vigil held for victim of Louisiana police action shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Some Hoosiers are showing solidarity with the family of a man who was killed in a police action shooting Tuesday.

A vigil was held Wednesday evening at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis. The open vigil was organized by the groups “Don’t Sleep” and “Indy 10 Black Lives Matter.”

A moment of silence was held at the vigil before the microphone was offered to anyone who wanted to say something.

“Slavery didn’t end because black people forced it to end,” said Rekia Boyd of “Don’t Sleep.” “Slavery ended when white people admitted that what they were doing was so wrong, and they should stop. So when enough white people care, that’s when this will stop.”

Dozens of people attended the vigil.
