Lafayette could start charging to release body cam footage

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The city of Lafayette could begin charging a fee for access to body and dashboard camera footage.

The state has authorized a fee of $150 to get a copy of the video. It’s part of the new law that gives law enforcement agencies some authority to withhold body camera footage, under certain circumstances.

The council voted Tuesday night to amend the city’s records to reflect the new fee.

The council also voted to refinance bonds that could save the city more than $1 million.
