Popular sunscreens may not be the most effective

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The most popular sunscreens may not be the most effective, that’s according to a new study published in the Journal Dermatology.

Researchers went to Amazon to find the highest rated produces, then they compared them based on two things: cost and whether they met the “American Academy of Dermatologists” guidelines for sunscreen.

They found nearly 40 percent of top-selling sunscreens don’t meet the criteria.

The academy recommends that everyone use sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays, has a SPF of 30 or higher and is water-resistant.

Researchers pointed out the top 10 cheapest sunscreens that still fit dermatologists’ guidelines.

Here are the top three:

  • NO-AD Sunscreen lotion SPF 45
  • NO-AD Sport Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50
  • Banana Boat Broad Spectrum Sun Care Lotion SPF 50
