Stolen Indianapolis vehicle breaks in half during Lafayette crash

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A man is hospitalized after crashing a stolen car in Lafayette.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Congress and 18th streets.

Lafayette police say they had received a stolen vehicle complaint and the person making the complaint was following the stolen car.

That’s when the car crashed into a tree and broke in half. The airbags deployed and the driver was taken to an area hospital.

A woman and a baby who were injured in the incident were also taken to the hospital to be checked out.

When police ran the vehicle identification number, officers learned the car had already been reported stolen out of Indianapolis.
