Armed person reported near IU-South Bend campus has been canceled

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WANE) – Indiana University Emergency Management issued a notice to those around the IU-South Bend campus of an armed individual.

Around 12:55 a.m. Friday, officials posted noticed on social media that a “subject with a handgun was last seen headed toward campus.”

On Facebook, officials said a person was seen near a convenience store in the 1700 block of Lincoln Way East. The note told anyone near the area to take safe shelter in the nearest available room.

WSBT, the CBS affiliate in South Bend, said an armed robbery was reported at a gas station near the campus. Police were looking for the suspect and IU-South Bend issued an alert as a precaution.

Police were unable to locate the suspect, but there was no longer a threat to the area.

The subsequent alert has since been canceled.
