Marquis de Lafayette sword recovered

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – After almost two months, the sword from a fountain in downtown Lafayette has been found.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff Barry Richard said the sword from the Marquis de Lafayette Fountain was recovered Thursday evening. He said it was in possession of a person who witnessed it being stolen.

Richard said that person is cooperating with law enforcement.

The case remains under investigation. But the report along with any potential charges will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

Police say the sword was not damaged.
