Hogsett hosts interfaith prayer vigil in wake of shootings

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett addressed the shootings from this past week at a prayer vigil Saturday.

Hogsett hosted the Prayer for Peace interfaith vigil. He was joined by local religious leaders, members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and members of the community.

The mayor addressed the recent tragedies across the country by saying, “We must act to address a system in which it is possible that men and women can die at the hands of a gun due to the fact that they wear a uniform.”

He went on to say, “We must also act to address a system in which it is possible that men and women can die at the hands of a gun due to the color of their skin.”

Hogsett said the event was organized because people are hurting after the tragic events this week.
