IMPD to increase event security following Black Lives Matter rally

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police are tightening security after a Black Lives Matter rally Saturday in an effort to ensure everyone stays safe.

IMPD Commander Ted Fries said the department is look at new ways to keep officers and the public safe during large demonstrations and events.

The Black Lives Matter rally drew hundreds to downtown Indianapolis. While there were no significant issues, IMPD said there were problems with people blocking streets.

Authorities across the country are heightening security following the deadly shootings in Dallas that left five officers dead.
