Gas prices take another big drop

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Gas prices took another big drop last week, and Purdue students are working on the toxic algae hitting Florida beaches.

The average price of gasoline has dropped seven cents over the past three weeks to $2.29 per gallon for regular grade.

Industry analysts Trilby Lunderberg said Sunday the decline comes thanks to lower oil price sand abundant gasoline supply.

She said the current price is 54 cents less than it was a year ago.

In other business headlines, a group of Purdue students are working on a research project that could help stop the spread of toxic algae.

The beaches of South Florida have been covered in toxic algae for more than a week, and a state emergency in many areas of the tourists destination are still in effect.

They are working on ways to remove the phosphorus, and then can stop the algae growth.
