Mega Millions winner urged to sign, safeguard winning ticket

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Hoosier Lottery says whoever holds the winning ticket to last week’s estimated $540 million Mega Millions jackpot should sign that ticket and keep it safe.

Hoosier Lottery spokesman Dennis Rosebrough said the winner has 180 days to claim the jackpot at the lottery’s Indianapolis headquarters. Day one was Saturday.

The winning ticket for Friday’s drawing was sold at a Speedway station in Cambridge City, about 50 miles east of Indianapolis.

Rosebrough said the winner is urged to sign their ticket and keep it safe until they claim the prize.

He says that person should also take “the important first step” of calling the Hoosier Lottery at 1-800-955-6886 to inform officials that they’re the winner.

Rosebrough said the lottery had not received such a call by late Monday afternoon.
