Neighbors react to overnight Lafayette shooting

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A man was airlifted after he was shot twice at a party in Lafayette early Sunday morning. Lafayette police report they still have no suspect. 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WLFI, spoke to neighbors who describe the scene as loud and chaotic.

Lafayette resident Tammy Crum has lived in a neighborhood on Eckman Place for the past 20 years.

“We love the neighborhood so much that our daughter bought the house across the street,” said Crum.

Crum said the neighborhood is typically quiet, and that is why hearing three gunshots across the street was shocking to her and her husband.

“My husband heard the dogs going crazy, so he got up, and he came outside,” said Crum. “He heard a lot of screaming.”

Crum immediately called 911.

“My husband had heard shots fired, and they were talking about shooting someone, and by the time he hung up the phone with 911, we had heard the police sirens in the background,” said Crum.

It was party in the 2500 block of Eckman Place that turned violent quickly.

Crum’s daughter Tori Crum said, “It’s a little bit scary. It’s a little bit nerve-wracking, especially when it’s two doors down from your house. That’s not something that is typical around here.”

Many neighbors describe the party as chaotic and loud.

Lafayette police raced to the scene around 2:40 a.m. where they found 24-year-old Clyde Greyer Junior suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.

Authorities said Greyer did not cooperate with police. No arrests have been made at this time.

Neighbors remain hopeful Eckman Place goes back to being a quiet neighborhood despite the shooting.

“I just hope that it never happens again, and that it gets solved and taken care of, and it can go back to being quiet,” said Tammy Crum.

Police said a total of three shots were fired and three shell casings were recovered in the street.
