Police continue to investigate north side homicide

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A shooting has left one man dead and the search for his killer continues.

It happened around 11 p.m. Sunday at the Nora Pines apartment complex, near 91st Street and College Street.

Police have yet to identify the victim.

People who live in the apartment complex said they never expected something like this to happen. They say it’s typically a quiet community.

“When we heard the sirens and came outside, we came outside to our immediate area being taped off as a crime scene and a young man was out here dead,” says resident Dawonda Gillepsy.

Gillepsy says she just moved to the complex a few months ago and says the community is very family oriented.

She thinks this is an isolated incident.

“I don’t think this is a direct reflection of what happened on us, the neighbors and the community that it is. I think something bad came into our area,” said Gillepsy.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers spent time walking and biking around the complex Monday. They’re talking to people and handing out Crime Stoppers flyers.

“It’s actually pretty scary. You can never imagine that happening to your family or yourself,” says another resident, BB Prez.

“This person’s family needs justice. This is somebody’s son, uncle, cousin, they need justice and who is going to explain to them how he was out here in a friendly community and lost his life. He deserves justice,” says Gillepsy.

Police are still looking for information regarding this case. If you know anything that could help them out call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
