TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Terre Haute Police Department reports the suspect involved in an attempted armed robbery Tuesday morning has been hospitalized.

THPD Sergeant Denzil Lewis reports the incident happened on the north side of Terre Haute at Fairbanks Park Tuesday morning around 9 a.m.

Sergeant Lewis said the victim was in her vehicle studying when the male suspect approached her with a knife and demanded money. The victim complied and gave him money, which is when the suspect then told the victim she was going with him.

That is when the victim was able to defend herself by “rapidly opening the door” and knocking the suspect to the ground. The victim was then able to flee the scene.

Officials report another person in the park noticed the suspect unresponsive on the ground and called for help. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.

The victim is reported to be unharmed. This is an ongoing investigation and police are working to obtain a search warrant.
