US Rep. Rokita plans to run for governor if Pence goes with Trump

INDIANAPOLIS (WLFI) – U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita has announced plans to run for the Republican nomination, if Indiana Gov. Mike Pence officially vacates the governor’s seat.

“Having served all Hoosiers for two terms as Indiana Secretary of State and having won two competitive statewide elections, Rep. Rokita will begin the race with high statewide name identification, a statewide fundraising and grassroots network, and a record of executive leadership and legislative results Indiana Republicans can rally around to prevent John Gregg from taking Indiana backwards,” Rokita’s office stated in a release.

Rokita represents Indiana’s 4th Congressional District and was first elected to the position in 2010. He was then re-elected in 2012. Prior to that, he served as Indiana’s Secretary of State from 2003-2010.

Rokita currently serves on multiple committees including being vice chairman of the House and Budget Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education.

Donald Trump will make his final vice presidential pick by Friday morning. If that pick is Pence, it could impact the Republican party in the gubernatorial race with losing the incumbent.
