Suspect robs mother, son in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Lafayette Police Department made an arrest after a reported armed robbery Thursday night.

According to Lafayette police, a mother and her juvenile son were walking in the area of Owen and Holloway streets when a male displayed a firearm and demanded money and property.

The suspect took property and left the area on foot. The mother and son were not injured.

After investigating the area, police say officers located the suspect — 21-year-old Deshawn Rutley, of Lafayette — at a residence in the 1400 block of Broadway Street.

Rutley was arrested and taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of robbery with a firearm and intimidation with a deadly weapon. He also had an outstanding felony warrant for unrelated charges.
