Daniels stands by decision to stay out of politics

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue University President Mitch Daniels is standing by his decision not to run for governor again.

Daniels said he released the statement quashing rumors last week out of respect for others who wanted to run. He said he doesn’t miss politics, just some of the people.

He has moved on to another chapter in his life, one that Daniels said he really enjoys.

“We came a long way. We’re a leadership state now in a lot of ways,” Daniels said. “It does matter to me – that we not slip back from that, but that can be the work of others. I’ll be here, doing what I think is important, and fulfilling work, and cheering for whoever is there.”

Daniels would not directly comment on Donald Trump selecting Mike Pence as his running mate. He said he tries to steer clear of partisan events.
