Indiana GOP candidates campaign at RNC in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio. (WISH) – With Indiana Governor Mike Pence joining Donald Trump as his running mate, it’s currently unknown who will be the GOP candidate for governor.

Three candidates are currently looking to fill the void left by Gov. Pence’s departure: Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb, Congressman Todd Rokita and Congresswoman Susan Brooks.

Twenty-two members of the state Republican committee will soon select the Republican nominee for governor, but with 16 members of the committee in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention, it’s a terrific opportunity for the candidates to get in some face time.

And while it’s currently unknown who will be the GOP candidate for governor come November, there’s another question looming large in the race to find a GOP replacement. Who is Gov. Pence’s choice?

Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb lobbied members of the state committee in a series of meetings at the Indiana delegation hotel Tuesday. While Holcomb is currently serving as Pence’s lieutenant governor, he said wants to win on his own in the battle against the two members of congress.

Congressman Todd Rokita mentioned that he’s not necessarily campaigning against Holcomb and Brooks, but instead is taking the opportunity at the RNC in Cleveland to promote himself.
