Meth discovered in Columbus Volunteers in Medicine donation box

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – An unknown substance discovered in the donation box of Volunteers in Medicine in Columbus Wednesday turned out to be methamphetamine.

According to the Columbus Fire Department, police officers arrived on scene at the Volunteers in Medicine located in the 900 block of North Marr Road in Columbus just after 2:30 p.m.

A staff member was reportedly counting money from a donation drop box when the unknown powdery substance fell out of a rolled up dollar bill.

It was at that time that the Columbus Fire Department was called to the scene to help identity the unknown substance.

Staff members in the building at the time of the discovery were then checked out for any possible adverse medical reaction to the substance. Those individuals state that they were OK, having no medical complaints.

After a number of tests, it was determined that the substance was in fact methamphetamine.

In addition to the Columbus Police Department and Columbus Fire Department, the Columbus Regional Health Emergency Medical Services were on scene as well.

The last crews left the scene just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
