Men posing as street workers rob Indianapolis seniors

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Men posing as Marion County street workers are targeting seniors, according to Indianapolis police. The suspects struck last month, and they hit again Wednesday afternoon.

IMPD says three suspects pulled up to a home on the city’s southwest side, near Mann Road and Tincher Road.

Darryl and Carolyn Perry have lived inside the home for 62 years. The couple says two of the men walked inside their home while a third man stayed outside and started spray painting the driveway.

While the Perrys were distracted, one of the suspects swiped a purse, jewelry and credit cards. They jumped inside a newer model Dodge truck and drove off. Just before the three left, they handed the couple a handwritten contract written with a marker on cardboard.

“I think it is mighty low down that you can’t trust anyone to come in and try to sell you a bill of goods like that to older people,” Carolyn Perry said.

The couple has only a vague description of the three suspects. It is unclear if the suspects are connected to a similar plot that happened last month. According to IMPD, three men targeted another south side home in June. In that case, three suspects told the elderly woman they were there to fix a drain.

One of the suspects slipped inside the woman’s home and took her purse. Later that day, someone tried to use the woman’s credit cards at a Wal-Mart on the west side.

IMPD only has a vague description of the suspects. It is unclear if both cases are connected. If you have any information you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS (8477).
