Watch moment South Carolina girl gets gift of hearing

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – It was a special moment on Wednesday when Myridith Covil, 7, heard clearly for the first time in her life. She lost much of her hearing at birth leaving her moderately deaf.

That means sounds like her dad’s own voice sounded muffled, and she had difficulties at school. She’s the first child in Spartanburg to get hearing aids donated by the Miracle-Ear Foundation.

WSPA-TV was there for the special and emotional experience with her dad and stepmom.

“I think she won’t be behind in school, she’ll be able to understand. She’ll be able to be around her friends and be the same – no disadvantage,” said Jessica Reece.

Myridith learned to read lips over the years. The family says they couldn’t afford hearing aids. This pair would’ve cost about $6,000, so they’re thankful for Myridith getting the gift of hearing. The Miracle-Ear Foundation has provided more than 10,000 hearing aids for children and adults since 1990.
