Fans prepare for hot Brickyard 400

SPEEDWAY,Ind. (WISH) — Drivers in the Brickyard 400 and spectators attending the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will have to deal with the extreme heat and high levels of humidity.

Fans heading to the race Sunday morning had coolers full of both alcoholic beverages and water. Several said they also packed coolers full of ice to put in towels to keep themselves cool.

“Lots of water and we have one cooler that we have ice and water in with a rag to pour over our head. And, you drink a bottle of beer, you drink a bottle of water,” Ancil Jackson said

“Umbrella, I’ve got the squirt bottle, I’ve got the towelette that you put in your cooler that you put around your neck, that really helps out,” Rodney Buhneing said.

The hour leading up to the race is filled with events starting with a speech at 2:05 p.m. from Jason Redman, CEO and Founder of Combat Wounded Coalition-Wounded Wear.

VIP introductions start at 2:27 p.m. Driver introductions begin at 2:30 p.m. at Victory Podium. A flyover will take place at 3:02 p.m and the green flag is scheduled to be waived at 3:19 p.m.
