“Faith Hope Love” Week underway
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The 12th annual “Faith Hope Love Week” kicked off Sunday with a prayer celebration co-hosted by several churches at Midtown Vineyard Community Church. The week of more than 60 activities sponsored by more than two dozen churches and neighborhood and other community organizations will continue through July 30th.
Volunteers will be participating in a variety of projects designed to bring four contiguous neighborhoods – Meridian-Kessler, Butler-Tarkington, Crown Hill, and United Northwest – together in a collaborative effort to build awareness of the needs of many residents of these neighborhoods and ways to participate not only in the FHL Week, but on a regular basis.
Activities will include feeding children and adults; providing upgrades to food pantries; activities for area residents that include entertainment, worship services, and food distribution; training volunteers; and bike rides for youth ages 10 to 16 with members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and Freewheelin’ Community Bikes.
The week of service and community interaction was created by Merlin Gonzales, the founder of Faith Hope Love Community which is located in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Center.
“Volunteers are still needed to help with the dozens of activities planned to benefit the neediest residents of these neighborhoods,” said Gonzales. “Donations of food and other items are welcome and may be brought to our office at 40 W. 40th.”
