Motorcyclist killed in possible hit-and-run crash on northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A motorcyclist is dead following a possible hit-and-run crash near 59th Street and Georgetown Road on Monday morning.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found an unresponsive man down on the roadway when crews arrived. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators believe the motorcycle was heading south on Georgetown Road and was approaching 59th Street. IMPD said a vehicle, possibly an SUV, was heading north on Georgetown Road and was turning west onto 59th Street.

According to IMPD, it is unclear if the vehicle collided with the motorcycle, or if the motorcyclist jumped off the bike to avoid the turning vehicle.

Detectives are hoping to talk to the person, driving possibly an SUV, to determine if the driver hit the motorcyclist.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in the crash as 37-year-old Michael Foree.

Recently sidewalks were installed near 59th Street and Georgetown Road making it safer for pedestrians that use that stretch each day.

Amin Abdelhaq, is owner of Café and Sandwich Bar, which sits near the intersection. Over the years, he’s seen the improvements made to Georgetown Road.
