New details emerge on State Road 37 project

FISHERS, Ind (WISH) – Months after announcing updates are coming to State Road 37, neighbors are about to get their first project update.

Each day, more than 50,000 drive State Road 37. “It takes 20 to 30 minutes on a bad day,” Fishers resident, Jarlon Liner said.

“It’s stop and go,” Fishers resident Joseph Gross said. “It would take roughly 10 minutes to get to 69 from here.”

State Road 37 is about to get a roundabout upgrade. However, before that happens, neighbors have plenty of questions.

“How they plan to ease the congestion during busy times,” Gross said.

“I’d like to hear the timeline,” Liner said. “How long can we expect for the construction delay, and I’d like to know when the final project will be completed.”

Fishers, and project team members will give an update Wednesday to a project that’ll add four roundabouts on a two-mile stretch of State Road 37.

At a recent meeting with business owners, some details were released.

Consultants still don’t know what the intersections will look like. Studies are taking place right now.

Construction will start in two years. Once it does, drivers could encounter roadwork six days a week. And crews could construct two roundabouts at a time.

We’ve also learned road work won’t only be on State Road 37, neighbors will see barrels on side streets because right now traffic studies are being done to identify the areas which will see the most congestion off 37. Those spots will receive improvements in 2017.

Businesses will get help too. A State Road 37 marketing campaign will take place. It is a four-year project neighbors hope will transform the area.

“I’m willing to endure that pain for a little while to make it a smooth transition in the future,” Liner said.

Wednesday meeting starts at seven at Fishers High School. If you’re not able to attend, don’t worry, it won’t be the last. Leaders plan to hold quarterly meetings to keep neighbors and business owners informed.
