Senior citizen suffers vicious attack in carjacking

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Diana Dunbar had just pulled up to her home on Monday evening. She collected her belongings and just as she proceeded to open her car door she was greeted by a group of people wearing masks. Before Dunbar could say a word, the group started making demands.

“He said ‘I will shoot you’,” said Dunbar.

Dunbar refused to give up her keys. One of the suspects struck the 74-year-old in the face, and that’s when she dropped the keys. Dunbar then got out of her vehicle, and watched as the group drove away in her 1997 Ford Explorer.

The suspects didn’t get far. They later crashed the SUV into a parked car. Police arrested two teenagers, and are following up information that could lead to more arrests.

In the aftermath, Dunbar’s SUV was totaled in the crash. Her car insurance doesn’t cover the crash.

Her family started a gofundme account to help Dunbar raise enough money for a car.

Currently Dunbar is on a fixed income and she used the vehicle to get her and her 80-year-old husband to and from hospital appointments and to the drug store for prescription refills.

“I really need a car,” said Dunbar.

IMPD is not releasing the identity of the suspects because they are currently considered minors.
