4-year-old airlifted after being hit by car

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A 4-year-old boy was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital after being struck by a vehicle in LaGrange County mid-day Tuesday.

According to a news release, the crash happened just after noon Tuesday along County Road 700 South near County Road 090 West 700 South in Clearspring Township. Police said a 2012 Chrysler 200 driven by 51-year-old Elizabeth Bontrager of Topeka had been driving eastbound when she went to pass a horse and buggy.

During the pass, 4-year-old Braydon Beechy of Wolcottville ran across the roadway, police said. Bontrager tried to slow but could not avoid hitting young Braydon, according to a report.

Braydon was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with complaints of pain to his abdomen and sides, the report said. His condition was not released.

Police said the investigation into the crash was ongoing.
