Man arrested after trying to flee from police on bicycle

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A man was arrested after he tried to avoid arrest by fleeing on a bicycle early Friday morning.

According to police, officers attempted to speak with two suspicious men riding bicycles near 21st Street and Pennsylvania Street around 1:45 a.m. One of the men stopped but the other, Daniel Hardin, 39 of Columbus, began riding through yards to attempt to get away from police.

The officer lost Hardin but later requested back-up and a K-9 partner. Hardin was found hiding in the bushes behind a home in the 2100 block of Pennsylvania Street.

Hardin was taken into custody. Police learned he had two warrants for his arrest. Marijuana and paraphernalia was also found on Hardin.

He was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail.

Hardin faces the following preliminary charges:

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Resisting Law Enforcement
  • Two Bartholomew County Warrants
