IMPD officer has been described as hero, victim, and now villain

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A suspended officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is schedule to face a judge in Ohio on Tuesday morning.

According to police, Officer Adrian Aurs was off-duty when he fired shots at an IMPD detective on Friday night. The court documents say Aurs fired three rounds at close range to the detective striking him in the right side and arm.

Despite his injures the officer was listed in good condition.  Aurs then jumped out of a window, and into his pick-up truck. During his attempt to getaway he called his father-in-law and apologized. Police in Cincinnati spotted Aurs in a truck and after a stand-off he surrendered to police in Ohio.

24-Hour News 8 did some digging, and discovered that Aurs has been hero, a victim, and now a suspect during his 15-year-career with IMPD. According to his personnel file, he received countless letters of commendations, awards, and letters of appreciation. He’s also received a Medal of Valor, Medal of Bravery, and a Purple Heart after being shot by a suspect in a shootout in 2003.

Aurs was also a victim back in 2005, WISH-TV interviewed him after a suspect swiped his identity and equipment.

Court documents now refer to Aurs as the villain who pulled the trigger and shot his fellow officer. It is unclear at this point if Aurs will ask for his charges to be waived so he can be extradite to Indianapolis to face attempted murder charges.

IMPD placed Aurs on suspension without pay. The department has taken away his gun, badge, and police ID. Currently, Chief Troy Riggs is recommending Aurs for termination.
