IMPD officer charged with attempted murder back in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis police officer charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a detective is back in Indiana after being extradited from Ohio.

Police say 42-year-old Adrian Aurs shot an IMPD investigator responding to a domestic dispute Friday night before fleeing to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was taken into custody after a standoff with authorities.

Aurs was booked into the Marion County Jail on Tuesday afternoon. He’s scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing on Thursday afternoon.

The IMPD detective shot is expected to recover.

Aurs has a colorful past with IMPD.

He’s been hero, a victim and now a suspect during his 15-year-career with the department. According to his personnel file, he received countless letters of commendation and awards. He’s also received a Medal of Valor, Medal of Bravery and a Purple Heart after being shot by a suspect in 2003.
