Last moments of teens life captured on video

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A home surveillance video captured the moments before a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed around the corner from his home. Nick Scroggins’ mother released the video exclusively to 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE.

It’s been over month since Scroggins’ was shot and killed the 5200 block of Lillie Street on June 21. Police still haven’t arrested anyone, but Scroggins’ mother Tennille Bright said they do have a copy of the surveillance video.

The grainy video shows a male walking to the front door and Scroggins answered the door. The two walk down the street and turn right onto Lillie Street and minutes later police arrived.

“He was at home, some one called his phone, lured him outside, he walked around the corner and he was murdered,” said Bright.

His death marks the 15th homicide in Allen County this year.

“My son did not deserve this, 27 times he was shot,” she said. “27.”

More than a month later, no arrests have been made. Now Bright is speaking out demanding justice for her son.

“It consumes me to know that the people that have murdered my son are out there walking around,” said Bright.

Bright believes the video alone is enough evidence to bring someone in for questioning and even file charges. Bright said police told her that’s not enough. They need witnesses.

“I believe in God,” said Bright. “I know you only get one time to try somebody with murder. So I want this one time to be the last time.”

Memories are captured in a shrine of jerseys, shoes and footballs of a young boy with dreams unfulfilled.

Scroggins’ mother hopes the images captured in a grainy video will someday help bring his killer to justice.
