State trooper uses knowledge of Narcan to save woman

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) – An Indiana State Police trooper, Kokomo police and Kokomo medics are being called a hero after they saved a victim of a possible drug overdose.

Officers were called to to a vehicle for a possible drug overdose of a woman around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The vehicle was located at Mohr Driver near Stafford Drive. Inside the car they found the female victim laying on the road unconscious. She was suffering from an apparent heroin overdose. Officers say her lips were turning blue and she was not breathing.

ISP Master Trooper Joe Swisher administered a nasal spray dose of Narcan to the victim. The drug revived the victim and was transported to a Kokomo hospital for further treatment.

Trooper Swisher was recently trained on Wednesday on how to use the Narcan kit.
