Aetna slowing down on expansion plan in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Aetna is slowing down expansion plans in Indiana. Also, Anthem is still trying to save the deal to buy Cigna.

Aetna has projected a loss on Obamacare plans for 2016 and has canceled its planned expansion to more state exchanges including in Indiana.

Indiana was one of a handful of states where Aetna said it planned to expand next year.

Now, its losing money on Obamacare and Aetna said it is setting up a reserve of $65 million to account for expected losses on individual plans for the rest of the year in the exchanges for the affordable care act.

In other business news Anthem is fighting for the deal to buy Cigna. The Indianapolis insurer has asked a judge to decide on the deal by the end of the year.

The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to block their merger.

Anthem also wants its proposed merger with Cigna to be spun off from the other big insurance merger Aetna and Humana and be considered separately.
