Grieving family hopeful after IMPD solves murder in hours

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested 25-year-old Jamarr Edmond on a murder charge.

Police believe Edmond shot and killed 24-year-old Deontae Davis near the 6500 block of East 25th Street Tuesday evening. IMPD arrested Edmond just hours after the shooting.

In the aftermath, residents were credited with helping IMPD make a quick arrest. Despite Edmond’s arrest, IMPD has been working overtime to resolve 52 unsolved murders in the city.

IMPD has made arrests in 28 murder cases this year. Two cases have outstanding warrants, and then there are 18 cases that were deemed cleared because they were considered self-defense.

The family of Shamus Williams is hopeful his case will be solved soon. In March, someone shot and killed the 22-year-old as he tried to run away from his attackers after being robbed.

IMPD had limited information to go on and no leads.

“It has been five months now, if someone can say something so we can have some peace,” said Tracy Williams Watkins, the mother of Shamus Williams.

Shamus was described as a homebody who rarely stepped outside of his apartment. IMPD is urging someone to call in with that critical tip on who is responsible for the killing.

Anyone with information in Wiliams’ case is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS, or 262-8477.
