Suspect arrested for 2015 armed robberies sentenced to 17 years

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – One of the three suspects who were arrested in connection with burglaries and armed robberies in April of 2015 was sentenced Wednesday morning.

Destin Jones, along with Stoney Johnson and Cynthia McCoy, was arrested on April 11 after officers with the Terre Haute Police Department connected them to robberies and burglaries in the 2300 block of Hulman Street, as well as incidents at the Jiffy Gas Station on 19th and Margaret and the Speedway on 25th and Hulman.

When the arrests were made, THPD Chief Keen stated Jones and Johnson stole from several businesses, homes and vehicles in that area. Officers found many of the stolen items at their home.

McCoy, who rented the residence where the arrests happened, is facing charges of assisting a criminal and receiving stolen property.

Jones was sentenced to 17 years on Wednesday morning in Vigo County Court, Division 1. The judge also advised for Jones to seek mental health and substance abuse help during his time.
