Beech Grove reaches settlement over Facebook lawsuit

BEECH GROVE, Ind (WISH) – The city of Beech Grove has reached a settlement with the two women that sued the city over their Facebook pages.

Last month, Beech Grove shut down their Facebook pages after the ACLU had filed a lawsuit against the City of Beech Grove on behalf of two women claiming that their First Amendment rights were violated.

The women reportedly posted comments on the Beech Grove Police Department’s Facebook page, and the city removed their comments with no explanation.

According to court documents, Kymberly Quick and Deborah Mays-Miller were then blocked from posting on the city pages.

In the settlement, the two women will be able to post on the Beech Grove Police Department and City Facebook pages.

The City is also not allowed to remove comments because of viewpoints and block users from posting comments because of viewpoints.

Beech Grove will also pay the two women’s court and attorney fees, which is around $7,400.

Beech Grove also created a policy for their Police and City Facebook pages.
